    Further information: It seems as if this issue only occurs when editing an existing topic. It behaves as I suggest when adding a new topic. So, to refine my suggestion, I suggest applying this logic to editing the associated lesson for existing topics.

    I would add that perhaps courses, lessons, and topics have an option to assign each with a unique code or number. The permalink would then reflect the shorter codes. For example, "Advanced Computer Graphic Design Software for Adult Learners" might be "COM397" and hence www.mysite.com/courses/com347
