An error occurred while saving the comment Heather Young commentedThis is essential! For instance, we offer a course in Fall 2012 with a certain group of registrants. I might make specific announcements & use time-sensitive examples & enrichment materials. When we offer the same course in 2013, I really want to be able to preserve the Fall 2012 version, AND to reproduce the core content easily, while also being able to add new material.

An error occurred while saving the comment Heather Young commentedI've worked on two LMS at colleges. One had different access for creator, instructor and student, where the course creator could see everything. The other didn't let me see the student view. It would have been handy for me to be able to confirm exactly what the students were seeing. From the viewpoint of a commercial course creator, I could see a value in being able to separate "auditors" (core content only) from full registrants (all the bells & whistles, testing, evaluation...)

Some questions (multiple choice, true/false) are closed & therefore it's easier for students to get credit by guessing. Some are wide open, e.g. essays, and need to be graded by hand. Some are in the middle; for instance, multiple answer, ordering, matching & jumbled sentence questions. I found that with these I could create questions that could be automatically graded that also required students really to know the answers in order to get full marks.
